Vincent's Atlanta AdviceWelcome to my web pages I have put together about my advice on sights to see when visiting Atlanta. The initial motivation for putting these pages together is IFIP VLSI-SoC 2007 held in Atlanta in October of 2007. I tend to be a history buff, so I will focus on sites of historical significance. |

My personal favorite is the Atlanta Cyclorama especially the historical explanations accompanying the introductory video and the viewing of the circular (approximately 350-400 feet around and 50 feet high) painting, the largest in the world. Unfortunately, Grant Park, the location of the Atlanta Cyclorama, is not within walking distance of the closest Atlanta has to a subway, the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). For less of an overview but better directions, see Sunbelt Advertizing's Atlanta Cyclorama Guide and Map. On Peachtree Street between 10th Street and Peachtree Place, very close to the Regency Suites Hotel, is a location dedicated to the author of the famous movie Gone With the Wind: the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum. (By the way, the movie is a work of fiction although the kinds of events portrayed are very historical -- hence the phrase "historical fiction.") |
