EE 4430: Analog Integrated Circuits and Systems

Course Overview

This course is based on three tightly-coupled units:
  • Unit 1 : Semiconductor Device Models applied towards Integrated Circuits (Chapter 1), Basics of Integrated Circuit (IC) fabrication (Chapter 2), and basic transistor circuits with resistive biasing (Chapter 3)
  • Unit 2 : Basic transistor circuits, transistor circuits with current source loads (Chapter 4), current sources, current mirrors, on-chip analog integrated circuits, including bias circuits and circuits using current source loads (Chapter 4). Extraction of parameters from layout, and basics of IC layout (Chapter 2).
  • Unit 3 : Advanced IC circuits using current source loads (Chapter 4), and discussion of on-chip op-amps (Chapter 6).

This course is different from previous circuit courses: This course emphasizes design and intuitive understanding of circuits, particularly those used on integrated circuits, and not plug and chug type approaches.

The first exam will cover the Unit 1 material, the second exam will cover Unit 2 material, and so on.
