ENGINEERING STUDY GUIDE
Engineers
- -- approach problems in an organized, scientific
manner
- -- develop efficient and practical solutions
to problems
I expect each of you to approach your homework
and tests in an organized, scientific manner. Many problems have
numerous solutions; seek the most direct and efficient solution
possible. Your homework and tests must be presented clearly, and
the grader must be able to follow your thought processes. If not,
the homework will not be graded. Points will be deducted from
tests if your solution is not clearly presented.
- Spend at least 2 hours studying the material
out of class for every hour spent in class.
- Read assigned material prior to class.
- Review notes each evening after the class;
identify points in your notes that you do not understand and
seek help on these points immediately (it may help to rewrite
your notes after each class).
- Start the homework immediately after it has
been assigned. Attempt every homework problem yourself, get help
from others only after you have made a good attempt..
- Study for a test using a top down approach:
- Prioritize the material in order of importance
and spend more time studying the most important concepts.
- Understand the connection between different
topics in your notes (memorizing your notes starting with page
1 is not very effective), work problems, and determine which
methods are most efficient for certain types of problems.
