There are many good course Web sites on the
Internet that you can adopt for your own use. To get your site operational
quickly, this page provides three skeletal models to customize. All
three templates were developed by the authors of this Web site, feel free
to mix and match the contents to meet your course and personal needs.
Simple Design
- View the simple design.
- If you want to use it, get a zipped
file containing all the component files.
- Unzip the file in a new folder, called /simple
on your computer. If you need an unzip utility, try Winzip.
- Open index_s.htm in a browser using the
File|Open menu to see your copy.
- Open the .htm files using a Web editor,
change to suit your course, save the files, and continuously refresh the
browser image so you know how your changes appear.
Horizontal Navigation Bar Design
- View the horizontal design.
- If you want to use it, get a zipped
file containing all the component files.
- Unzip the file in a new folder, called /horizont
on your computer. If you need an unzip utility, try Winzip.
- Open index_ho.htm in a browser using the
File|Open menu to see your copy.
- Unless you understand frames, don't open
or modify the index_ho.htm file.
- Open the other .htm files using a Web editor
and change to suit your course, save the files, and continuously refresh
the browser image so you know how your changes appear.
Vertical Navigation Bar Design
- View the vertical design.
- If you want to use it, get a zipped
file containing all the component files.
- Unzip the file in a new folder, called /vertical
on your computer. If you need an unzip utility, try Winzip.
- Open index_vo.htm in a browser using the
File|Open menu to see your copy.
- Unless you understand frames, don't open
or modify the index_vo.htm file.
- NOTE: The bannervo.htm page contains a Java script for
the scrolling notice box. Some Web editors erroneously change the HTML
line <script= "JavaScript"> to <script> rendering
the banner blank. If that happens, open bannervo.htm in WordPad and change
the line back to its original content. You can always obtain a fresh copy
of the zipped file and start again.
- Open the other .htm files using a Web editor
and change to suit your course, save the files, and continuously refresh
the browser image so you know how your changes appear.

Embedding Files of Other File Types
Web pages let you create a
link to any type of file using the pathname for the desired file.
- Build the file to be embedded
in your Web page.
- Upload the file to your
Web server.
- Create a link in the Web
page with a location http://..... pointing to the pathname of the file
on the Web server. For example, to embed a PowerPoint file in this
Web page, a link was created that pointed to the
location on the Web server storing the PowerPoint file that was used during
the Controls Conference presentation.
- If your computer has PowerPoint95
or 97, when you click on the above link PowerPoint will open with the presentation
page, or you will be prompted to save your file. The route taken depends
upon your computer's configuration of the .ppt file type.
