Labs are generally life-sucking places. The "learning is fun" concept is quashed by fluorescent lighting, zone air conditioning (I'd pay money to be able open a window), and nicotine-yellow walls. I have my "lucky" and "helpful" chickens to brighten up my lab bench. I also have a philodendron, the Gurkha of lab plants.
Yes, they are samurai chickens. The one on the right is holding a mercury dime which I received in change.
"No Paul, I'm not done wiring up the breadboard."
My Pismo is hands-down the best computer which I've every used. 500Mhz, 1Gig of RAM. It's travelled the world with me, and I use it to write all of my papers. At seven years old, I'm sure that it's not the oldest laptop in continuous use, but I'll probably try to go for the record. The batteries last longer and longer as battery technology has improved. The battery lasts about 11 hours, plus/minus a few based on the number of LaTeX compiles.
I seem to recall that this was taken about 2am, which is late for me. I think it was the night Richie and I finished our 130nm layout for the FPGA.
