Project Winger(Wi-Fi Stinger)

Georgia Tech ECE 4180 Project - Fall 2008

Stinger Robot with eBox 4300 with Wi-Fi and Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000

Overview

This endeavor fulfills the project requirement for the Embedded Systems Design course (ECE4180) at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Two senior electrical engineering students programmed an eBox-4300 compact computing device mounted on a Stinger robot with a webcam. The eBox 4300 acted as a server that provided a continuous video stream through a TCP/IP socket to any wireless connection with Wi-Fi capability. A client application was developed for a laptop/PC that displayed the video image from the nose camera and captured keystrokes. That keyboard information was then sent as encoded movement commands to the robot. This allowed the operator to drive the robot from a laptop/PC as viewed from the webcam without having to maintain visual contact with the vehicle.
