CeBoxLocator

Embedded Systems Design Project

About CeBoxLocator

The CeBoxLocator project's major design goal was to allow a car to be located from a cell phone.

Using GPS technology, the CeBoxLocator is able to calculate its basic direction with respect to a GPS enabled cell phone and send this information to the phone via SMS text message. To do this, the user must first run our "Find Your Car" application from a GPS enabled cell phone running Windows Mobile. This application sends the phone's location to the CeBoxLocator via SMS text message. The CeBoxLocator then sends directions and its location back to the phone. After displaying the received message, the "Find Your Car" application attempts to visually indicate the direction of the CeBoxLocator. However, this functionality only works when the cell phone is in motion.

Applications

The CeBoxLocator's most obvious use is in cars. If a car with a CeBoxLocator is stolen, it could be easily located and recovered. A CeBoxLocator could also be placed in a child's car so that the parents know where they are at all times. Furthermore, the CeBoxLocator could be used to locate a lost car in a large parking area.
