Mustafa Alper Akkas was born in 1982 in Seydisehir, Turkey. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Erciyes University in 2006. He is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at Ege University. His research interests include wireless underground communication networks, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor networks and network simulation tools.

Currently, he is a visiting student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, in the Broadband Wireless Networking Lab under the supervision of Pr. Dr. Ian F. Akyildiz. His current research is focused on Wireless Underground Communication Networks.

Selected Honors and Awards

  • Awarded with a scholarship from the OYP program to conduct graduate research in the Broadband Wireless Networking Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Fall 2011-Spring 2012.
  • Awarded with a scholarship by the Turkish Ministry of Education, for attending graduate studies in Germany, Japan or USA, in the subjects of Nanophotonics, Nanoelectronics and Nanomagnetism, Fall 2006-Spring 2007.
  • Graduated with the rank of 4 out of 100 students from Erciyes University in Spring 2006.
