The School of Electrical and Computer EngineeringDr. Miroslav Begovic receive his B.S. and M.S. degrees, both in Electrical Engineering, from Belgrade University, Yugoslavia. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1989. His thesis work was in the area of analysis, monitoring, and control of voltage stability in electrical power systems. His research was concentrated upon applications of a fast real-time phasor measurement system to the problems of monitoring and control of slow dynamics in power systems. Upon graduation, Dr. Begovic accepted a faculty position with Georgia Institute of Technology, where he continues to do research on the application of computer analysis techniques in power systems.
Professor Begovic's current research interests are in the general area of power systems with efficient control algorithms. He participated in development of synchronization techniques for distributed measurement systems and data acquisition for high speed monitoring. Current research includes harmonic effects and measurements in power systems, reliability of distribution networks, and application of digital signal processing to power system protection.
