GRAD.COURSE EE6614 (formerly EE8873) Spring 2007 Course Notes MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS: This course is a comprehensive introduction to multimedia communications. It covers media processing (including the compression, recognition and synthesis of speech, audio, image and video signals), as well as media communications (including joint designs of source coding, channel coding and networking). Channel and network models are used in conjunction with media compression principles, to understand internet and wireless multimedia. Media recognition and synthesis are described in relation to the ever-increasing importance of human-computer interaction, as an integral part of next-generation information technology. Project assignments introduce the student to hands-on multimedia computing. The course will prepare students for multimedia-related jobs and research careers in the high-opportunity areas of internet and wireless communications.
