Educational Background

Dr. Harley earned his BSE (cum laude) and MSE (cum laude) degrees from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) in 1960 and 1965, respectively, and he earned his Ph.D. degree from London University in 1989.

Personal Biography

Dr. Harley, a native of South Africa, comes to ECE from the University of Natal in South Africa where he was Deputy Dean of Engineering.  He is an IEEE Fellow, a British IEE Fellow, a Fellow of the Royal Society in South Africa, a Fellow of the University of Natal and a member of the Academy of Science in South Africa, the IEEE Power Society, the Power Electronics Society, Industrial Electronics Society, and the Industrial Application Society.  His research interests are in the dynamic and transient behavior of electric machines and power systems and in controlling them by the use of power electronics and control algorithms.
