Dr. Erik I. Verriest received the "Ingenieur" degree from the State University of Ghent, Belgium in 1973. He received the M.S. (E.E.) and Ph.D. (E.E.) degrees from Stanford University in 1975 and 1979 respectively. He has worked at the Control Systems Laboratory and the Hybrid Computation Center of the State University of Ghent, Belgium working on process simulation and control. At Stanford, he contributed to the application of the theory of systems over finite fields in cryptography, and the sensitivity analysis for a whole class of array algorithms with applications in estimation and control. He also worked on applications of scattering theory to problems in distributed sensor networks for estimation and detection.
