Educational Background

Personal Biography

Dr. W. Russell Callen, Jr., received the A.B. (Physics) from Princeton University in 1965 and the M.S. and Ph.D. (Applied Physics) from Stanford University in 1967 and 1971 respectively. At Stanford his research was on nonlinear optical interactions, including thermal defocusing of gas lasers and pulse stretching of Q-switched lasers. He has worked for NASA on hybrid optical-digital data processing systems. He is a co-author of an undergraduate text on lasers and their applications. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, IEEE, and the Optical Society of America. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and was awarded the 1989 Engineer of the Year in Education in Metro-Atlanta.
