William Hunt - Associate Professor

Dr. William D. Hunt received the B.S. degree summa cum laude in 1976, from the University of Alabama, the S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980, and the Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1987, all in Electrical Engineering. In addition he has worked at Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida, and Bolt Beranek and Newman in Washington, DC. His doctoral research was on GaAs Acoustic Charge Transport (ACT) devices. He is a member of IEEE, the Acoustical Society of America, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi and was a Rhodes Scholar Finalist. He received a DuPont Young Faculty Award and a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator award.

Professor Hunt's current research interests are focused on the development of ACT devices. He is particularly interested in the impact of acoustic considerations on the design of new device structures. Included in this work are theoretical and experimental work on the details of surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagation in piezoelectric semiconductors. Other research areas include the development of biomedical ultrasound transducers for non-invasive tissue characterization and the development of improved SAW devices.
