    Network Infrastructure

As shown in the following figure, the broadband indoor wireless LAN is a infrastructure-based network. One access point (AP) in a cell manages all mobile terminals (MTs) covered by the cell. MTs supporting multimedia traffic communicate with each other via the access to APs. Through APs, MTS cannot only be connected to other wireless LANs such as IEEE 802.11, HIPERLAN, and IEEE 802.16, but it can also be connected to wired LANs or wired backbone networks such as ATM networks and the next generation Internet.
