Welcome to my Home Page

Bienvenue sur ma page d'accueil

Hi! My name is Zakaria Ajmal, though my friends call me Zak. I am a graduate student in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech.

As you can see, this page is under construction. I hope to add a lot of interesting stuff to this page whenever I get the time (which will hopefully not be after my graduation!!)

I am from Islamabad which is the capital city of Pakistan. It is a modern city which was established in the 1960s. Pakistan is a beautiful country with plains, mountains and what not. But I like the northern areas of Pakistan which have high snow-capped mountains with lakes and glaciers. I hope to add some pictures soon. My picture above is at Satpara Lake in Skardu. It is a very beautiful lake surrounded by high barren peaks.

I was born in Wah Cantt., a small city about 25 miles west of Islamabad, on December 7, 1970 (this date is significant in the history of Pakistan as the first ever general elections took place that day!). I did my BS in Electrical Engineering from the Taxila Campus of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 1993. (Well, Taxila is a historical city very near Wah Cantt and there are a lot of historical ruins of 2000 years ago. You can see a number of statues of Budha in the museum there.) More famous is Lahore, the second largest city of Pakistan. It has a lot of beautiful buildings and monuments from the Mughal era. A saying in Punjabi, the local language, says that "One who hasn't seen Lahore is not yet born."

I got engaged to a lovely lady in December 1993 and next December we got married. Her name is Ambrin and she is also an Electrical Engineer. Here is a link to her own home page.

I worked as a Design Engineer for four years after completing my BSc in Pakistan. I was involved in the design of DSP systems. If you are interested in my work, have a look at my resume. Then I thought it was time I spent some more years in school. So I came to the US in September 1997 for a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. So far it has been a great experience.
